Vývoj softvérových nástrojov si vyžaduje testovanie ich korektnosti, v ideálnom prípade na veľkom množstve vstupných dát. Okrem toho môže byť užitočné zmerať zdroje, ktoré nástroj využíva, a porovnať ich merania s predchádzajúcimi verziami toho istého nástroja alebo ich porovnať s inými nástrojmi, ktoré riešia rovnaké problémy. Developing a software tool requires testing for its correctness, ideally on a large set of input data. Additionally, it can be helpful to measure the resources used by the tool and to compare the measurements against previous versions of the same tool or compare them with other tools that solve the same problems.
