The Effect of Monetary Policy on the Development of Manufacturing Industry in the V4 Countries

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na působení monetární politiky centrálních bank na finanční výkonnost firem, posuzovanou z několika hledisek. Znalosti o teorii monetární politiky jsou uplatněny při vyhodnocování míry jejího vlivu na finanční hospodaření podniků z odvětví zpracovatelského průmyslu v členských zemích Visegrádské skupiny. K posouzení dopadů monetární politiky na investování firem, jejich výsledek hospodaření a zadluženost je využita panelová regresní analýza. Prostřednictvím této metody jsou sestaveny modely, které popisují závislosti vybraných charakteristik finanční výkonnosti na vybraných makroekonomických a mikroekonomických proměnných, a na jejichž základě lze identifikovat a porovnat rozdíly v působení monetární politiky na podniky mezi jednotlivými zeměmi navzájem a také ve vztahu k Visegrádské skupině jako celku. Výsledky práce vypovídají o ukazateli výsledek hospodaření před zdaněním a úroky jako nejvhodnějším hledisku pro sledování finanční výkonnosti podniků v závislosti na prováděné monetární politice. Monetární politika měla ve sledovaném období různou míru dopadu na finanční výkonnost firem také v závislosti na jejich velikosti. V závěru jsou uvedeny možnosti rozšíření výzkumu do konkrétních podoblastí zpracovatelského průmyslu nebo jiných časových období.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the effect of monetary policy of central banks on the financial performance of companies, assessed from several perspectives. Knowledge of the theory of monetary policy is applied in evaluation of the degree of its impact on the financial performance of companies in the manufacturing industry in the Visegrad Group’s member countries. A panel regression analysis is used to assess the impacts of monetary policy on companies’ investments, their operating profit and indebtedness. Using this method, models describing the dependence of selected characteristics of financial performance on selected macroeconomic and microeconomic variables are compiled. Based on them, it is possible to identify and compare the differences in the impact of monetary policy on companies among individual countries and also in relation to the Visegrad Group as a whole. The results testify to the earnings before interest and taxes as the most appropriate aspect for monitoring the financial performance of companies depending on the implemented monetary policy. In the period under review, monetary policy had a varying degree of impact on companies’ financial performance, also depending on their size. In conclusion, the possibilities of expanding research into specific subareas of the manufacturing industry or other time periods are presented.
