Abstract:

HAMPL, Marek. ?Svoboda a strach jsou ve válce?: využití funkční systémové lingvistiky a kritické lingvistické analýzy při reprezentaci skupin ?My? a ?Oni? v diskurzu George W. Bushe po 11. září 2001. Předkládaná disertační práce pojednává o prezentaci skupin ?My? a ?Oni? v diskurzu amerického prezidenta George W. Bushe v období od 11. září 2001 do května 2003. Teoretická koncepce pro analýzu politických projevů je zasazená v kombinaci funkční systémové lingvistiky, kritické lingvistické analýzy a kritické analýzy diskurzu. V analytických částech disertační práce se pozornost soustředí na analýzu systému tranzitivity, vybraných metafor, systému zájmem, a nominalizace a trpného rodu v diskurzu mluvčího. Na základě jednotlivých analýz může být konstatováno, že zmíněné diskurzivní prostředky přispěli k dichotomické polarizaci do skupin ?My? a ?Oni.? Závěry z jednotlivých analýz jsou zasazeny do širšího spoločensko-politického kontextu, který vznikl po 11. září 2001, a který zahrnoval vojenské operace v Afgánistánu v roce 2001, a v Iráku v roce 2003.

HAMPL, Marek. ?Freedom and Fear are at War?: The Application of Systemic-Functional Linguistics (SFL) and Critical Linguistics (CL) in the Analysis of the Representation of ?Us? and ?Them? in George Bush´s Discourse after Sept. 11, 2001 [Ph.D. thesis]. Ostrava university in Ostrava (Ostrava, Czech Republic). Faculty of Arts. Department of English and American Studies. Supervisor: Mgr. Christopher Hopkinson, BA, Ph.D. Degree of qualification: Ph.D., 2014. 204 pp. The thesis focuses on the representation of ?Us? and ?Them? in political speeches delivered by George W. Bush in the period from Sept. 11, 2001 to May 2003. The theoretical framework for the analysis is grounded in the combination of Systemic-Functional Linguistics (SFL), Critical Linguistics (CL) and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The analytical parts of the thesis are focused on the analysis of the system of transitivity, metaphors, pronominal references, and nominalizations and passivizations in the discourse of the speaker. On the basis of the analyses that are presented, it can be argued that these discursive devices contributed to the creation of the dichotomous representation of ?Us? and ?Them? in the speaker´s discourse. The findings from the analysis are located within a broader socio-political context that came into existence as a result of the events from September 11, 2001.
