Abstract:

Tato práce se zaobírá vztahem Británie a Kontinentu nejen v rovině mezinárodních vztahů. Zabývá se také tématem identit - anglické, britské i problematické identity evropské, která je zejména v dnešní době fenoménem, který si zasluhuje větší poznornosti. Vývoj vztahu Británie a Evropy je pojímán v rovině konvergence i divergence, jak v rovině britské specifičnosti, tak také v rovině styčných bodů mezi Británií a evropským kontinentem. Práce se nesnaží pouze v pozitivistickém duchu o rozbor konkrétních historických událostí a faktů, nýbrž o co nejkomplexnější analýzu britského evropanství, což ji nevyhnutelně vede i dějinám idejí, problematice identit a exkurzím do sféry kulturní.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the relationship of Britain with the european Continent until 1920s, not necessarily on the level of international relations only. It also explores the issue of identities - whether English (Englishness), British (Britishness) or in English environs still somewhat problematic European identity (Europeanness?), which is an increasingly topical phenomenon nowadays and therefore definitely requires more attention by the scholarly research. The interpretation of the development of Britain-Continent relationship has been attempted from the convergence as well as divergence point of view, considering british specificity as well as noting the liaison between Britain and the european Continent. The aim of this work is not only "positivistic" or somewhat descriptive analysis of important historical events and facts related to this topic. This dissertation rather intends to achieve the most complex and comprehensive account on british Europeanism possible,which inevitably leads it author to the realm of history of ideas and ideology, the problems of identities or the cultural sphere as well.
