Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem brněnské vily Tugendhat, zvláště pak jejího obývacího pokoje, v románu britského spisovatele Simona Mawera Skleněný pokoj. Úvodní část představuje autora a jeho knihu, architektonické styly využité při stavbě vily, životopis a filozofii jejího architekta Ludwiga Mies van der Rohe a popis samotného skleněného pokoje. Hlavní část diplomové práce je pak zaměřena na tři hlavní motivy objevující se v románu, a sice linie a křivky, sklo a světlo a barvy, na jejich roli v celém příběhu a na symboly, myšlenky, dojmy a významy, které vyjadřují a přenášejí na čtenáře. Text je doplněn ukázkami z knihy a fotografiemi.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of the Tugendhat Villa in Brno, especially then with its living room, in the novel The Glass Room written by British novelist Simon Mawer. The introductory part describes author’s life and his novel, architectonic styles applied to the building of the house, biography and philosophy of its architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and the Glass Room itself. The main part of this diploma thesis is focused on three main motifs appearing in the novel, i.e. lines and curves, glass, and light and colours, on their role in the story and on symbols, ideas, impressions and meanings which they express and convey on readers. The text is supported by extracts from the book and by photographs.
