Abstract:

Tibetská exilová vláda (Central Tibetan Administration, CTA) a Čínská lidová republika (ČLR) spolu vedou propagandistickou válku již od roku 1959, kdy 14. dalajlama uprchl do indického exilu. Od té doby obě strany bojují pomyslné bitvy převážně o historii Tibetu, identitu tibetského lidu a podporu politických mocností či světové veřejnosti. Dynamika oficiálních diskurzů a propagandy se v průběhu času proměňuje a oba rivalové v souboji sahají k různým komunikačním kanálům a dalším prostředkům, kterými svoji politickou rétoriku šíří – muzeologie a využití instituce muzea je pak jedním z nich. Po představení historicko-politického kontextu a vývoje narativů o Tibetu souvisejících s propagandou CTA a ČLR v předkládané práci ukazuji, jakým způsobem se proměnil způsob vedení návštěvníků a snahy ovlivnit jejich názory na tzv. „tibetskou otázku“ v instituci Tibetského muzea, jež spadá jako jediné muzeum na světě pod přímý dohled tibetské exilové vlády sídlící dnes v indické Dharamsale. Rovněž ukazuji vývoj a současnou podobu propagandistických strategií, ke kterým se CTA za spolupráce s najatými západními odborníky na muzeologii a design uchýlila při snaze zvrátit propagandistickou válku s ČLR ve svůj prospěch.

Abstract:

The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and the People's Republic of China (PRC) have been fighting a propaganda war since 1959 when the 14th Dalai Lama fled to Indian exile. Since then, the two sides have been fighting imaginary battles mostly over Tibet's history, the Tibetan people's identity and the support of political powers or the world opinion. The dynamics of official discourses and propaganda have been changing over time, and the two rivals in the contest have been reaching out to different channels of communication and other pro-means to spread their political rhetoric – museology and the use of the institution of the museum being one of them. After introducing the historical and political context and the development of narratives about Tibet related to CTA and PRC propaganda, in the presented dissertation, I show how the way of guiding visitors and trying to influence their views on the so-called "Tibet question" has changed in the institution of the Tibet Museum, which is the only museum in the world under the direct supervision of the Tibetan government-in-exile now based in Dharamsala, India. I also demonstrate the evolution and current form of the propaganda strategies that the CTA (in collaboration with hired western museology and design experts) has resorted to in an effort to turn the propaganda war with the PRC to its advantage.
