Politics of Israel under the reign of Benjamin Netanyahu

Abstract:

Téma této diplomové práce je izraelská politika za vlády Benjamina Netanjahua, izraelského premiéra. Poprvé se stal premiérem v roce 1996 a jeho vláda trvala do roku 1999. Podruhé byl zvolen v roce 2009 a zastává post premiéra dodnes. V první části práce popisuje politický systém v Izraeli a seznamuje s historií politické strany Likud, které předsedá Benjamin Netanjahu. K vůdcům této politické strany patřili například i Menachem Begin, Jicchak Šamir a Ariel Šaron. Diplomová práce dále popisuje život politika Benjamina Netanjahua a jeho politickou kariéru, zejména pak přibližuje politickou situaci Izraele v období vlády Benjamina Netanjahua. Věnuje se také problematice a výsledkům izraelských voleb. Dále se práce zabývá mírovým procesem mezi Izraelem a Palestinou a mimo jiné i stále aktuální otázkou židovských osad, které hrají důležitou roli v uzavření míru. Zmíněna je v práci i hospodářská a sociální politika Izraele a v neposlední řadě i politika mezinárodní, a to vztahy Izraele se Spojenými státy, Íránem či Českou republikou.

Abstract:

The theme of this thesis is Israeli politics under the rule of Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel´s prime minister. He first became prime minister in 1996 and his government lasted until 1999. He was selected for the second time in 2009 and holds the post of prime minister until today. The first part of this thesis describes the political system in Israel and introduces the history of the political party Likud, chaired by Benjamin Netanyahu. The leaders of this political party included, for example, Menachem Begin, Jicchak Shamir, and Ariel Sharon. The thesis further describes the life politics of Benjamin Netanyahu and his political career, especially the political situation of Israel during the reign of Benjamin Netanyahu. It also deals with the issues and results of Israeli elections. In addition, the thesis deals with the peace process between Israel and Palestine and, among other things, with the ongoing issue of Jewish settlements, which play an important role in the closure of peace. In the work are mentioned the economic and social policy of Israel and, last but not least, the international policy, Israel´s relations with the United States, Iran or the Czech republic.
