Determinants of price differences in the European Car Market

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá cenovou diferencí na evropském trhu s novými automobily. Cílem práce je vysvětlení rozdílných cen nových automobilů v jednotlivých evropských zemích pomocí úrovně konkurence, reálné mzdy, distribuce příjmů a ceny paliv. Teoretická část uvádí čtenáře do širších souvislostí evropského automobilového průmyslu a poskytuje přehled o stávajícího výzkumu v rámci analyzovaného problému. Praktická část analyzuje vliv jednotlivých ekonomických fenoménů na cenovou diferenci na evropském automobilovém trhu pomocí komparace na základě originálních primárních dat získaných z oficiálních webových stránek automobilových prodejců v jednotlivých zemích, Eurostatu, tolls.eu a internetové stránky bolddata.nl. Pomocí proměnných: úroveň konkurence, distribuce příjmů a ceny paliv byly vysvětleny rozdíly v cenách automobilů v jednotlivých státech Evropy. Oproti již existujícímu výzkumu práce zohledňuje proměnnou reálná mzda, jejíž předpokládaná korelace s cenami automobilů nebyla pomocí výzkumu potvrzena.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with price differentials in the European new car market. The aim of the thesis is to explain the differences in the prices of new cars across European countries using the level of competition, real wages, income distribution and fuel prices. The theoretical section introduces the reader to the broader context of the European automotive industry and provides an overview of existing research on the problem under analysis. The practical part analyses the impact of different economic phenomena on the price differential in the European car market by means of a comparison based on original primary data obtained from the official websites of car dealers in each country, Eurostat, tolls.eu and the website bolddata.nl. The variables level of competition, income distribution and fuel prices were used to explain the differences in car prices across European countries. In contrast to existing research, the paper takes into account the variable real wages, whose expected correlation with car prices has not been confirmed by research.
