Titles published without publishers: the comparison of American and Czech environment from the perspective of authors

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Tituly vydané bez nakladatele: srovnání amerického a českého prostředí z pohledu autorů se zabývá stále se rozšiřujícím fenoménem – self-publishingem. V úvodu práce je představen historický vhled do této problematiky, dále je prostor věnován autorům, kteří se rozhodnou pro tento způsob vydávání, jejich motivacím i možnostem publikování. Část práce se zabývá také předsudky o self-publishingu. Závěr první části je pak věnován možnému budoucímu směřování tohoto trendu. Druhá část práce se zaměřuje na americké a české prostředí, ta jsou následně srovnána, a to z pohledu možností jednotlivých autorů. Americké prostředí je popsáno pomocí self-publishových platforem, české pak z pohledu participantů českého knižního trhu (nakladatelé, distributoři a autoři).

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis Titles published without the publisher: comparison of American and Czech environment from the perspective of the authors deals with the ever-expanding phenomenon - self-publishing. The introduction presents a historical insight into this issue, there is also space dedicated to authors who decided for this way of publishing; their motivations and publishing options are also included. A part of the work also deals with prejudices about self-publishing. The conclusion of the first part is devoted to the possible future direction of this trend. The second part focuses on the American and the Czech environment, they are thereafter compared from the perspective of the possibility of individual authors. The American environment is described using platforms for self-publishing, the Czech environment from the viewpoint of Czech book market participants (publishers, distributors and authors).
