Abstract:

Tato dizertační práce zkoumá žánrovou strukturu populárně vědeckých zpráv v souvislosti s hodnotící významovou složkou v jazyce. V rámci tohoto zkoumání se zaměruje na výskyt, funkci a realizaci hodnotících výrazů a gramatických prvků jednotlivých fázích (moves) jakožto základních jednotkách žánrové struktury. Zatímco kvantitativní část výzkumu sleduje v každé z dvanácti identifikovaných fází četnost gramatických prvků a výskyt evaluace pěti různých dimenzí, v kvalitativní části jsou pozorované tendence ilustrovány na příkladech a dále zkoumány z hlediska funkčního, a to se zvláštním zřetelem ke spojitosti mezi hodnotící a obsahovou. Statistika posloupností fází nepřímo ukazuje, že současně s tendenci umísťovat na začátek textu informaci s největší zpravodajskou hodnotou je ve většině případů dodržen přirozený postup od fakt k definici a interpretaci k příčínám a následkům, evaluaci a konečně doporučení, tzv. přirozená progrese stází. V souvislosti s multifunkčností segmentů sdílejících rysy dvou nebo více fází jsou popsány rozdíly mezi předkládanou analýzou a analýzami ostatních badatelů. Celková statistika hodnotících výrazů vzhledem k předmětu evaluace ukazuje na jasnou převahu pozitivních hodnocení situace po (nebo v důsledku) objevu ve srovnání se situací před objevem. Toto rozložení se však v textu projevuje spíše lokálně než globálně. Zároveň existuje řada pozoruhodných výjimek daných potřebou vyváženosti zpravodajství. Spojitost mezi obsahovou (ideační) a evaluativní významovou stránkou textu je popsána jednak z hlediska potenciálu jednotlivých kroků v progresi stází implikovat evaluaci, a jednak z hlediska ideačně- sémantických charakteristik výrazů, jimiž se evaluace ve větě šíří (propaguje) od zdrojového výrazu.

Abstract:

The present thesis examines the generic structure of science news, focusing on the occurrence and function of evaluation and grammatical features. After establishing a typology of twelve different moves as the basic units of the structure and identifying their tokens in the corpus texts, the quantitative part of the research shows how they differ with respect to five dimension of evaluation and a broad range of grammatical features. The interpretation of the quantitative results and the discussion of examples elucidates the function of grammatical and evaluative resources, and their contribution to the appeal of the reported discovery. The sequential ordering of moves, despite the tendency to front the most newsworthy information, largely complies with the natural (stasis) progression from fact to interpretation, evaluation and recommendation for action. Drawing on an account of the underlying multifunctionality potential of text segments, the differences between alternative accounts of move structure are explained. On an overall perspective, the statistics of evaluation reveal a prevalent positive new situation and negative before (or without) the new findings distinction, however, with only a limited reflection in global structure terms and with some remarkable exceptions necessitated by the requirement for objectivity in news reporting. The interplay between ideational and evaluative meaning is discussed from two perspectives: first, with respect to the ideational semantics of the expressions through which evaluation propagates from a source expression within the clause; second, with respect to the implicit evaluative potential of the various stages (stases) of discussing an issue.
