Simulation and Evaluation of Security Amplification Protocols for WSN on ns-2

Abstract:

Dosažení odpovídající bezpečnosti bezdrátových senzorových sítí (WSNs) je a výzva kvůli omezenému hardwaru, výpočetní síle a energii zdroje dostupné s uzly WSN. Zesílení zabezpečení (SA) pro zabezpečení WSN je alternativou konvenční způsoby zabezpečení sítí WSNs. Zvýšení bezpečnosti je a proces self-healing WSN, kde je zlepšena bezpečnost spojení prostřednictvím pravidelné aktualizace šifrovacích klíčů odkazu. Tento proces je výsledkem v hlavních zprávách v WSNs. Zahrnuje další přenos a čas příjmu uzlů vedoucích k vypouštění energie a naopak omezení jejich životnosti. Počet klíčových aktualizačních zpráv pro daný procento obnovení spojení na zabezpečený stav je jedním z důležitých návrhová kritéria pro protokoly zabezpečení zesílení. V této výzkumné práci jsou simulovány tři stávající SA protokoly pomocí simulátoru NS2 zjistit relativní výkon protokolů. Protokoly SA jsou testovány na důležitá kritéria výkonu, jako je procento obnovení spojení na zabezpečený stát a počet SA klíčové zprávy o aktualizaci vyžadované pro každý protokol SA. Simulace je prováděné s 3000 náhodně umístěnými uzly WSN se dvěma různými modelů útočníků ve více konfiguracích. Srážky čerpané v tato výzkumná práce je založena na průměrné výkonnosti SA protokoly v řadě iterací každého scénáře.

Abstract:

Achieving adequate security of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is a challenge due to limited hardware, computational power and energy resources available with the WSN nodes. Security Amplification (SA) for WSN security is an alternative to resource-intensive conventional methods for securing WSNs networks. Security Amplification is a process of self-healing of WSNs where the link security is improved through a periodic update of link encryption keys. This process results in overhead messages in WSNs. It implies additional transmission and reception time for nodes leading to energy drain and in turn limiting their lifespan. Hence, the number of key update messages for a given percentage of recovery of links to secured state is one of the important design criteria for Security Amplification protocols. In this research work, three existing SA protocols are simulated using NS2 simulator to figure out relative performance of the protocols. The SA protocols are tested for important performance criteria like the percentage of recovery of the link to secured state and the number of SA key update messages required for each SA protocol. The simulation is carried out with 3000 randomly placed WSN nodes with two different attacker models in multiple configurations. The deductions drawn in this research work are based on the average performance of the SA protocols in a number of iteration of each scenario.
