The beginnings of urbanization of Italic cities

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá počátky urbanizace italických měst. Podává základní historický přehled Italiků (Latinů, Falisků, Sabinů, Umbrů, Pikénů, Samnitů a Osků) a jejich sídlištních poměrů od konce doby bronzové do ovládnutí Římem. Je také zaměřena na mytologii zakládání měst ve starověkém Řecku a Itálii, vzniku měst u nejstarších civilizací a otázku etnicity v rané době železné v Itálii. Záměrem je popsat změny sídlištních struktur z venkovského osídlení na konci doby bronzové ve vznik centralizovaných a urbanizovaných center v době železné.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the beginnings of urbanization of Italic cities. It presents basic historical overview of Italic people (Latins, Faliscans, Sabines, Umbri, Picentes, Samnites and Osci) and their settlement standards from the end of the Bronze Age to the moment when Romans gained control. Is also focused on the mythology of foundation of the cities in ancient Greece and Italy, on formation of cities of the oldest civilizations and question of ethnicity in Early Iron Age in Italy. The intention of this thesis is to describe the changes in settlement structures of rural population at the end of the Bronze Age and their change into centralized and urbanized centres in the Iron Age.
