The condition of trees on the children's playgrounds

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá zdravotním stavem stromů na dětských hřištích. Úvodní část pojednává o dřevinách a jejich stresových faktorech v městském prostředí a následně hodnocením zdravotního stavu těchto dřevin. Vedle literárního přehledu byla práce doplněna vlastní částí, která se zabývá problematikou zdravotního stavu stromů na vybraných dětských hřištích. U pěti dětských hřišť na území městské části Praha 2 byl posouzen zdravotní stav stromů. Byly hodnoceny všechny stromy na dětských hřištích a dále byly vybrány stromy ležící mimo dětská hřiště, kdy byl posléze jejich zdravotní stav porovnán. Aktuální stav stromů na dětských hřištích byl hodnocen podle Standardu péče o přírodu a krajinu (Kolařík et al. 2015). Použitím této metodiky lze určit stromy, které jsou v nejhorším stavu a ohrožují bezpečnost lidí. Výsledkem bylo navržení zásahů, ke zlepšení celkového zdravotního stavu stromů. Bylo provedeno i orientační měření zhutnění půdy pomocí penetrometru. Z výsledků je zřejmé, že dřeviny vyskytující se přímo na hřišti nebo v jeho bezprostřední blízkosti jsou v horším zdravotním stavu než dřeviny vyskytující se mimo hřiště v travnatých plochách parku. Dřeviny na dětských hřištích rostou v utuženější půdě, především vlivem většího pohybu osob. Z výsledků také vyplývá, že stabilita a vitalita dřevin se v průběhu let snižuje. Tyto dva ukazatele jsou z hlediska bezpečnosti nejdůležitější při hodnocení zdravotního stavu stromů. Část stromů na dětských hřištích je vysazeno na nevhodném stanovišti a vzhledem k jejich zdravotnímu stavu nezbývá nic jiného, než je pokácet. Součástí práce je i diskuze, která shrnuje poznatky zjištěné ve vlastní části této práce. V přílohách se nachází dokumentace z vybraných hřišť, inventarizace dřevin a dokumentace měření zhutnění půdy.

Abstract:

This thesis addresses the health condition of trees at children’s playgrounds and their vicinities. Woody plants and stress factors of urban areas affecting them are the subject of the introductory part of the thesis. In addition to the literature review, the thesis contains the part focusing on the problems of health conditions of trees at chosen children playgrounds. Specifically, the health conditions of trees at five children playgrounds located in the urban area in Prague 2 were evaluated. The health conditions were compared among trees located in the children playground vicinities and trees placed outside those playgrounds. For the evaluation of the trees’ current state, the Standards in Nature and Landscape Management (Kolařík et al. 2015) had been used. This methodology helps to detect the trees in the worst conditions endangering the safety of people. The result of the thesis is a plan of remedies contributing to the improvement of the trees’ health conditions. Orientation measurement of soil compaction was also performed by a penetrometr. According to the results of the thesis, woody plants located at the playgrounds or in their vicinities are in the worse conditions in comparison with those located outside the playgrounds. Woody plants at playgrounds vegetates in more compacted soil which is the consequence of the intensive activities of people. Furthermore, the stability and vitality of woody plants decreases over the years. Those two indicators are the most important in terms of safety and health conditions of trees evaluation. Some of the trees on the playgrounds are planted in an unsuitable post and due to their state of health, the best solution is to cut them down. The part of the thesis contains also a discussion summarizing the findings of the research. In the appendices of the thesis, the documentation of the chosen playgrounds, inventories of the woody plants, and documentation of the soil compactness can be found.
