Thin Films Prepared from Polymer Blend and their Spectroscopic Analysis

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je seznámit čtenáře s tenkými polymerními filmy, přípravou vzorků pomocí spin-coatingu a ověřování jejich vlastností především pomocí spektroskopických a mikroskopických technik. Práce se zaměřuje na monitorování teplotní domény skelného přechodu tenkých filmů ze směsi polymethylmetakrylátu (PMMA) a polykarbonátu (PC) pomocí reflexně-absorpční infračervené spektroskopie a měřením spekter v závislosti na teplotě. Vzhledem k citlivosti infračervené spektroskopie na změny rotačně-vibračních stavů molekul, které úzce souvisí se strukturou vibrujících skupin a jejich okolím, je tímto způsobem možné popisovat i dynamické přechody odehrávající se pod teplotou skelného přechodu a které se týkají uvolnění pohybů nejen celých segmentů makromolekul (-přechod), ale i bočních řetězců, tzv. -přechod. Spektra filmů ze směsi PMMA a PC byly charakterizovány v závislosti na jejich vzájemném poměru a především tloušťce tenkého filmu, která, jak bylo zjištěno, úzce souvisí s konkrétními spektrální odezvou na ohřev vzorku.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to introduce thin polymer films, the preparation of samples using spin-coating method and the characterization of their properties mainly using spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. The work describes a monitoring of the temperature domain of the glass transition of thin films of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and polycarbonate (PC) blend by reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy and a measurement of spectra in dependence on temperature. Due to the fact that infrared spectroscopy is sensitive to changes in rotational-vibrational states, which are closely related to the structure of vibrating groups and their vicinity, this method can be used for a description of dynamic transitions below the glass transition temperature which are related to the release of movements not only of segments of macromolecules (-transition), but also side chains, the so-called -transition. Spectra of PMMA and PC blended films were characterized depending on polymer ratio and the thickness of the film. It was found that the thickness of the film is related with particular spectral temperature response.
