Organizational climate and leadership style in a particular organizational unit

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá organizačním klimatem, stylem vedení a jejich vzájemným vztahem. Literatura poskytuje k organizačnímu klimatu, stylu vedení a jejich vztahu řadu modelů a teorií převážně z oblasti organizačního designu. I když jednotlivé modely organizačního designu nejsou schopny nabídnout komplexní pohled na studovanou problematiku, vzájemně se doplňují a pokrývají tak širší oblast poznání. Cílem této práce je proto identifikace a popis vztahu organizačního klimatu a stylu vedení v konkrétní organizační jednotce za užití několika modelů organizačního designu. Pro výzkum jsou v této práci formulovány dvě výzkumné otázky: „Existuje ve sledované organizační jednotce nesoulad mezi přítomným organizačním klimatem a stylem vedení?“ a „Jaký je vztah mezi organizačním klimatem a stylem vedení ve zkoumané organizační jednotce?“. Vztah organizačního klimatu a stylu vedení ve sledované organizační jednotce je zkoumán využitím případové studie. Jako metodické podklady této práci zejména posloužily polo-strukturovaný rozhovor s ředitelem sledované organizační jednotky, dotazovací formulář a analýza obdržených interních dokumentů. Jako odpověď na první výzkumnou otázku byl identifikován nesoulad mezi organizačním klimatem a stylem vedení ve sledované organizační jednotce. Dle teorie autorů Burton et al. (2015) bylo pro sledovanou organizační jednotku identifikováno organizační klima „Racionální cíl“ a styl vedení „Leader“. K získání detailnější výpovědi o vztahu organizačního klimatu a stylu vedení byly analyzovány vybrané dimenze přítomného organizačního klimatu a hledán vztah mezi stavem dimenzí organizačního klimatu a přítomným stylem vedení. Identifikován byl vztah mezi přítomným stylem vedení „Leader“ a příznivým stavem dimenze organizačního klimatu „Zodpovědnost“. Pro stav ostatních dimenzí organizačního klimatu se za použití zvoleného metodického aparátu a zpracovaného teoretického rámce nepodařilo identifikovat vztah k přítomnému stylu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is dealing with organization climate, leadership style and their interdependence. There are several studies that are addressing organization climate, leadership style and their interdependence and these studies offer several models and theories mainly from the field of organization design. Even though these models of organization design are not able to offer a holistic view on the topic of this thesis, they do complement each other and cover the broader area of expertise. Therefore, the objective of this work is to identify and to define the link between organization climate and leadership style in a specific organization unit with the application of several models of organization design. There are two research questions asked in this thesis: “Is there a misfit between organization climate and leadership style in this organization unit?” and “What is the relation between organization climate and leadership style in this organization unit?” A case study is used to understand the relation between organization climate and leadership style. The methodological tools used as source of this thesis were semi-structured interview with the director of the organization unit, questionnaire and analysis of internal documents. For the first research question, there was a misfit identified between organization climate and leadership style in the organization unit. According to Burton et al. (2015) the organization climate identified in the given organization unit was “Rational goal” and the leadership style was identified as “Leader”. To gain a deeper understanding of the relation between organization climate and leadership style organizational climate dimensions were analyzed and link between the state of the organization climate dimensions and practiced leadership style were looked for. There was a relationship identified between the practiced leadership style “Leader” and the favorable status of the organization climate dimension “Responsibility”. Relationship could not be identified for the state of any other organizational climate dimension and practiced leadership style.
