Development and analysis of advanced hybrid nanolaminates based on ternary Mn + 1AXn and binary MXene for applications in extreme conditions

Abstract:

Tato práce se soustředí na vývoj a charakterizaci pokročilých hybridních nanolaminátů na bázi ternárních Mn+1AXn, (kde M = Hf, Zr, Sc; A = In; X = C a n = 1) a binárních MXene, (kde M = Ti a X = C) ve formě tenkých filmů pro aplikace v extrémních podmínkách. Tenké filmy byly připraveny pomocí zařízení LEIF a poté ozářeny 35 keV Ar+ s fluencí 1015 cm-2. U všech tenkých filmů byla provedena detailní materiálová charakterizace za účelem popisu fyzikálních, chemických a mechanických vlastností, strukturních parametrů a zhodnocení jejich možného využití v extrémních podmínkách, zejména v jaderné energetice. Elektronovou mikroskopií se studovala mikrostruktura tenkých filmů a defektů vzniklých po iontovém bombardování. Elektronovou difrakční analýzou a Fourierovou transformací se potvrdil vznik fází: M2AX (Hf2InC, Zr2InC a Sc2InC) a M2X (Ti2C), měřením jejich mezirovinných vzdáleností. Studované fáze byly dále zkoumány prostřednictvím analýz XRD pro zjištění vzniklého fázového složení. AFM analýza sloužila ke studii topografie tenkých filmů a RBS analýza pro stanovení stechiometrie vzorků. Nanoindentací byly zjištěny hodnoty Youngova modulu pružnosti a mikrotvrdosti, které poukázali na dobré mechanické vlastnosti všech tenkých filmů i po iontovém ozařování.

Abstract:

This work is focused on the development and characterization of advanced hybrid nanolaminates based on ternary Mn + 1AXn, (where M = Hf, Zr, Sc; A = In; X = C and n = 1) and binary MXene, (where M = Ti and X = C) in the form of thin films for applications in extreme conditions. Thin films were prepared using a LEIF technique and further were irradiated with 35 keV Ar + with a fluctuation of 1015 cm-2. A detailed material characterization of all thin films was performed in order to describe the physical, chemical and mechanical properties, as well as their structural parameters. Evaluation of their possible application in extreme conditions, especially in nuclear energy was conducted. Electron microscopy studied the microstructure of thin films and defects formed after ion beam irradiation. Electron diffraction analysis and Fourier transform confirmed the formation of M2AX (Hf2InC, Zr2InC a Sc2InC) and M2X (Ti2C) phases. The studied phases were further investigated by means of XRD analysis to determine the resulting phase composition. AFM analysis was used to study the topography of thin films. Nuclear analytical RBS analysis was applied to determine the stoichiometry of samples. The values of Young's modulus of elasticity and microhardness were found by nanoindentation, which showed good mechanical properties of all thin films even after ion irradiation.
