Functional spaces methods applied on data of finance

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je seznámení s matematickými metodami interpolace, extrapolace a regrese. Zvolením několika typů funkcí a jejich aplikací na vývoj vybraných měnových kurzů zkoumá práce schopnost těchto metod doplňovat hodnoty uvnitř intervalu v případě, že nějaké nejsou k dispozici a odhadovat další vývoj sledovaných dat v období následujícím po posledním měření. Největší pozornost je věnována kurzům EUR/CZK a EUR/RUB, na kterých jsou jednotlivé metody demonstrovány s využitím lineární a polynomiální funkce, kubického splinu a Fourierových řad. Na základě těchto aplikací a určení chyb jednotlivých metod s využitím Lebesgueových prostorů dochází práce k závěru, že v období klidu a ekonomické stability je nejpřesnějším způsobem odhadu použití Fourierových řad. O něco jednodušší z hlediska aplikace, přesto stále velmi přesný odhad poskytují také regrese polynomiálními funkcemi. Ve chvíli, kdy jsou zkoumaná data zatížena neočekávaným vstupem, jakým může být chyba proběhlého měření, či málo pravděpodobná náhoda, neshledává práce žádnou z výše zmíněných metod schopnou relevantního odhadu.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to familiarize with the mathematical methods of interpolation, extrapolation, and regression. By choosing several types of functions and their application to the development of selected exchange rates, the thesis examines the ability of these methods to supplement values within the interval in the event that some are not available and to estimate the further development of the monitored data in the period following the last measurement. The greatest attention is paid to the EUR/CZK and EUR/RUB exchange rates, where individual methods are demonstrated using linear and polynomial functions, cubic splines, and Fourier series. Based on these applications and the determination of the errors of individual methods using Lebesgue spaces, the thesis concludes that in periods of peace and economic stability, the most accurate way of estimation is the use of Fourier series. Regressions with polynomial functions also provide a somewhat simpler in terms of application, but still a very accurate estimate. At the moment when the investigated data are burdened with an unexpected input, such as an error in the measurement performed or an unlikely coincidence, the thesis does not find any of the above-mentioned methods capable of relevant estimation.
