Josef Kalfus: sculptor and pedagogue from Hořice

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je poprvé komplexně zpracovat život a dílo akademického sochaře a pedagoga Josefa Kalfuse, narozeného roku 1908 v Železném Brodě. Práce mapuje jeho osobní život i profesní kariéru, která je úzce spjatá s městem Hořice, především s hořickou střední školou sochařskou a kamenickou, kterou Josef Kalfus nejprve absolvoval, později na ní učil. Práce poskytuje náhled na díla uschovaná v rodinném archivu, její důležitou součástí je také soupis všech Kalfusových děl, která se podařilo identifikovat.

Abstract:

The goal of this bachelor’s thesis is to comprehensively explore for the first time the life and work of academic sculptor and pedagogue Josef Kalfus, born in 1908 in Železný Brod. The thesis delves into his personal life as well as his professional career, which is closely interwined with the town of Hořice, particularly with the Secondary school of Sculpture and Stonemasonry, where Josef Kalfus first studied and later taught. The thesis provides insights into works stored in the family archive, and an integral part of it is a catalog of all Kalfus’s works that have been traceable.
