Security Relations between North and South Korea after 2015

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje otázce bezpečnosti a směřování k míru a unifikaci na Korejském poloostrově, jejím východiskům, její pozicí v rámci politik obou Korejí a jejímu současnému stavu a možnému dalšímu vývoji. Cílem práce je prostřednictvím historické analýzy vztahů mezi oběma korejskými státy a komparace jejich sil zhodnotit aktuální bezpečnostní situaci mezi Korejskou republikou a Korejskou lidově demokratickou republikou společně s cíli mezikorejských vztahů, které si oba státy kladou do budoucna a s jejich limity. První část práce se zabývá faktory, které současnou pozici obou Korejí utvářely. Především geopolitickou situací na Korejském poloostrově po korejské válce a tzv. sluneční politikou, kterou Jižní Korea zahájila své usmiřovací snahy. Cílem druhé části je porovnání, jak si oba státy stojí vůči sobě navzájem i vůči světu v rámci hlavních demografických a ekonomických ukazatelů a zejména pak v oblasti vojenství. Poslední kapitola se pak věnuje jihokorejským a celosvětovým snahám o denuklearizaci KLDR, ke které přispěly především tři mezikorejské summity v roce 2018. V neposlední řadě jsou v práci vytyčeny cíle dalšího mezikorejského směřování a zároveň problémy, se kterými se nejspíše budou muset oba státy na této cestě potýkat.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the question of security and tendency towards peace and unification on the Korean Peninsula, its starting points, its position within the policies of both Koreas and its current state and possible further development. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the current security situation between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, together with the goals of the inter-Korean relations that the two states put in the future and with their limits, through historical analysis of the relations between the two Korean states and comparison of their powers. The first part of the thesis deals with the factors that shaped the current position of both Koreas. Above all, the geopolitical situation on the Korean Peninsula after the Korean War and the so-called Sunshine policy by which South Korea has launched its reconciliation efforts. The aim of the second part is to compare how both states are standing up to each other and the world within the main demographic and economic indicators, especially in the military field. The last chapter deals with the South Korean and global efforts to denuclearize the DPRK, which was mainly contributed to by the three inter-Korean summits in 2018. Finally, the thesis points out the goals of further inter-Korean relations direction and the problems that both states will most likely have to face.
