Staging of Bedřich Smetana's opera Libuše

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce pojednává o operním díle Bedřicha Smetany – Libuše. Je rozdělena do dvou částí – na období vzniku a prvních dvou uvedení této opery a na poslední dvě nastudování v Národním divadle Brno a v Národním divadle v Praze v roce 2018. První část pojednává o vzniku opery a o historických událostech, převážně politických, které za jejím vznikem stojí. Dále jsou zde rozebrány některé hudební motivy postav a libreto opery. Pro detailnější představu o nastudováních z let 1881 a 1883 byly použity kritiky a recenze z dobových periodik. Druhá část je pak zaměřena na poslední nastudování zpěvohry, která proběhla ve stejný čas v obou divadlech. Zde se práce zaobírá jejich rozlišným pojetím a tím, zda byla dodržena Smetanova idea. Ve druhé části se práce věnuje také marketingu a propagaci, a to jak samotného divadla, tak i dané inscenace. Dalším zkoumaným aspektem je pak celková návštěvnost divadel a jejich financování.

Abstract:

The master thesis is focused on Bedřich Smetana´s opera Libuše. It is divided into two parts: period of formation and first two performances of the opera, and the last two renditions in Národní divadlo Brno and in Národní divadlo in Prague in 2018. First part deals with formation of opera and historical events, mainly political, which are considered as a result of operas formation. Also, there are examined some of character musical themes and libretto of the opera. Periodic critiques and periodicals were used for more detailed notion of renditions from 1881 and 1883. Second part of the thesis is focused on rendition of opera, both theatres was doing it in the same time. In this part, the thesis concentrates on different conception of opera and if they observed Smetana´s idea. There is marketing and publicity of the theaters and the play as well. In addition, there is total attendance at theatres and their funding.
