Witchcraft in history - the transformation of the concept of witches and witchcraft in the eyes of Christianity

Abstract:

Tato práce dokumentuje určité vývojové etapy magie a čarodějnictví v historii. Hlavní pozornost je věnovaná vzniku a vývoji fenoménu magie a čarodějnictví do období novověku, kdy probíhaly takzvané "hony na čarodějnice". Pro pochopení problematiky je nezbytné také vymezení základních pojmů v oboru magie. Následně se práce zaměřuje na popis magické praxe a tradičního pojetí magie u starověkých národů, stejně jako popis židovské, předkřesťanské a křesťanské magie. Hlavním cílem práce je zdokumentovat obecné pojetí čarodějnictví v období středověku a novověku, kdy byl obraz tradiční čarodějnice přetvořen katolickou církví, a jako takový zásadním způsobem figuroval v procesech s čarodějnicemi.

Abstract:

This work is aimed for specific periods in the history of witchcraft and magic. The main theme of this work are origin and evolution of the phenomenon of magic and witchcraft to the period of Modern Age, which is called "witch-hunt". To understand the issue, it is necessary to define basic concepts in the discipline of magic also. Subsequently, the thesis focuses on the description of magical practice and the traditional concept of magic in ancient nations, as well as the description of Jewish, pre-Christian and Christian magic. The main theme focuses on the concept of witchcraft in the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, when the image of the traditional witch was transformed by the Catholic Church, and as such it was in witch trials.
