Stephen Dedalus and His Modern Religious Labyrinth
Abstract:
Bakalářská práce se soustředí na hlavní postavu dvou románů Jamese Joyce, Stephen Hero a A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, kterou je Stephen Dedalus. Práce je zaměřená hlavně na raný vývoj jeho vztahu k náboženství. Zkoumám specifickou katolickou víru Stephena Dedaluse, ve které se mísí duch modernismu s racionálním myšlením a stopy irského dědictví.Abstract:
This bachelor thesis deals with the main character of Joyce’s manuscript Stephen Hero, his novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man - Stephen Dedalus. In particular, it focuses on the early development of his attitude towards religion. I examine how in Stephen’s particular Catholic faith the modernist spirit blends with rationalistic thought and his Irish heritage.
