Pregnancy and superstition. Situation in conception to birth through the eyes of three generations of women

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá těhotenstvím v jeho sociálním a kulturním kontextu. Ústředním kulturním prvkem, na který je kladen důraz, jsou pověry spojené s těhotenstvím. Práce je rozdělena na tři základní části. Nejprve předkládá poznatky uváděné v odborné literatuře. Uvádí nejčastější tabu a pověry spojené s těhotenstvím v tradičních kulturách a v české lidové kultuře. Dále diskutuje téma vlivu těhotné ženy na komunitu a představuje těhotenství jakožto rituální období. V další části práce se je věnován prostor studiu postavení těhotných žen ve společnosti v posledních padesáti letech. K tomu jsou využity poznatky získané terénním výzkumem, kdy byly prováděny rozhovory se ženami tří generací. Práce se věnuje jejich srovnání a hledání paralel. Ve třetí části je otevřeno téma pověr v dnešní společnosti a existence ústní lidové slovesnosti v městském prostředí. Bakalářská práce dále předkládá vývoj a význam pověr. Závěr práce je věnován shrnutí získaných teoretických a praktických poznatků a návrhu jejich dalšího využití.

Abstract:

The Bachelor Thesis deals with pregnancy in its social and cultural context.The main cultural element to which it is emphasized are the superstitions associated with pregnancy. The Thesis is divided into three parts. First of all, it submits the evidence presented in the literature. Some of the common superstitions and taboos associated with pregnancy in traditional cultures and Czech folk culture are presented. Next topic discusses the influence of pregnant women at the community and pregnancy as a ritual period. The next section is devoted to the study of status of pregnant women in society over the past fifty years using observations obtained from field research, where interviews were conducted with three generations of women. The work focuses on the comparison and search for parallels between them. The third part is the opening theme of superstition in our society and the existence of oral folk literature in the urban environment. Bachelor thesis also presents the development and importance of superstition. The conclusion is devoted to a summary of theoretical and practical knowledge and design of their further use.
