Role conflict of women managers returning from maternity leave

Abstract:

Diplomová práce má za cíl doporučit změnu očekávání vůči pozici matky, která je rov-něž pracující manažerkou. Téma práce je velmi aktuální, protože ačkoliv dnes ženy tvoří téměř polovinu pracující populace, pouze malá část z nich má možnost povýšení a vykonávání vedoucí pozice v zaměstnání. Jednou z nejvýznamnějších bariér, se kterými se ženy v práci potýkají, je doba, kterou stráví na mateřské nebo rodičovské dovolené se svými malými dětmi. Kvalitativní výzkum diplomové práce je specificky zaměřený na matky, které vykonávají pozici ve středním nebo vyšším managementu. S těmito respondentkami byly uskutečněny polostrukturované rozhovory a jejich zkušenosti jsou v praktické části analyzovány dle čtyř předem určených oblastí - zkušenosti žen po návratu do zaměstnání, možnosti kariérního postupu, diskriminace žen s malými dětmi na pracovních trhu a skloubení rolí matky a manažerky. Výzkumným záměrem diplomové práce je zjistit, jakým konfliktům v sociálních rolích čelí ženy-manažerky po návratu z rodičovské dovolené. Výsledky výzkumu jsou zhodnoceny v závěru práce.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis aims to give a recommendation for a change of expectations towards the position of the mother who is also a working manager. The topic of the thesis is very relevant in the era we live in, because although today women account for almost half of the working population, only a small part of them has the opportunity to be promoted and perform a leading position in their jobs. One of the most important barriers women face in their work is the time they spend on maternity or parental leave with their young children. The qualitative research of the diploma thesis is specifically focused on mothers who perform their roles in middle or higher management. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with these respondents, and their experience is analyzed in the practical part according to four predetermined areas - women's experience of coming back to work, career advancement, discrimination of women with young children on the job market, and the balance in between the roles of being a mother and being a manager. The aim of the research is to find out what conflicts in social roles do women- managers face after their parental leave. The results of the research are evaluated at the end of the thesis.
