Dystopian Elements in The Hunger Games Trilogy

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je analyzovat prvky dystopie v trilogii Hunger Games od Suzanne Collinsové. Práce popisuje žánr dystopie a odvozuje některé dystopické elementy relevantní pro analyzovaný příběh. Analýza trilogie je poté rozdělena do tří částí. První část zkoumá dystopické prvky, které jsou hlavní příčinou nespokojenosti lidí v příběhu a vedou k revoluci. Druhá část analyzuje samotnou revoluci a zaměřuje se na tři hlavní postavy, které reprezentují určité dystopické vlastnosti. Konečně třetí část se soustředí na období poté, co je revoluce vyhrána, a zkoumá, zda může mít dystopie šťastný konec a jak jsou tím postavy ovlivněny.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis aims to analyze elements of dystopia in The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. It provides a description of the genre of dystopia and derives some of its elements relevant to the analyzed story. The analysis of the trilogy is divided into three parts. The first part examines the dystopian elements, which are the main cause of dissatisfaction of people in The Hunger Games and lead to a revolution. The second part analyzes the revolution itself and focuses on three main characters, who display certain dystopian qualities. The third part then concentrates on the period after the revolution is won and examines whether there can be a happy ending in a dystopia and how the characters are influenced by it.
