Job satisfaction and stress of home healthcare nurses

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit pracovní spokojenost a výskyt stresu u sester zaměstnaných v agenturách domácí péče Moravskoslezského kraje. Dále zjistit, zda vybrané sociodemografické faktory u sester ovlivňují jejich pracovní spokojenost a stres, a jestli existuje vztah mezi těmito dvěma proměnnýma. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 133 sester z 37 agentur domácí péče Moravskoslezského kraje. Výzkum probíhal formou dotazníkového šetření od 1. 3. 2016 do 31. 7. 2016. Pro sběr dat byly použity standardizované dotazníky Home Healthcare Nurses Job Satisfaction Scale (HHNJS) a Perceived Stress Scale - 10 item (PSS 10), které byly doplněné o demografické údaje. Výsledky: Sestry hodnotily celkovou pracovní spokojenost nadprůměrně. V rámci spokojenosti s jednotlivými aspekty pracovního života byly sestry nejvíce spokojené se vztahy s pacienty a s pracovními vztahy s kolegy. Naopak nejvíce nespokojené byly sestry s finančním ohodnocením práce, s pracovním přetížením a se vztahy s lékaři. Co se týče sociodemografických údajů u sester (věk, vzdělání, specializace, délka praxe u agentury, délka ošetřovatelské praxe, rodinný stav), vliv se potvrdil jen u faktoru délka praxe na současném pracovišti, kdy sestry s délkou praxe u agentury 6-10 let vykázaly ze všech skupin sester nejnižší spokojenost. Ve výzkumném vzorku sester byl vyhodnocen střední stupeň stresu. Bylo zjištěno, že vybrané sociodemografické faktory neovlivňují stres u sester domácí péče. V oblasti vztahu mezi pracovní spokojeností a stresem byla potvrzena slabá, ale významná negativní korelace. Závěr:Výsledky hodnocení pracovní spokojenosti sester zaměřené na celkovou spokojenost a také na její dílčí oblasti poskytují zpětnou vazbu, která je důležitá pro vedení jednotlivých zařízení, pro management kvality a v konečném důsledku pro samotné zaměstnance. Je nutné posilovat a podporovat oblasti, které sestry hodnotí příznivě a naopak hledat optimální řešení problémů v oblastech, které jsou vnímány negativně.

Abstract:

Aim: The aim of the thesis was to find out about the job satisfaction and the presence of stress among the home care nurses. It also tries to find out if the sociodemografic factors of nurses influence their job satisfaction and stress amount and if there is a relationship between the job satisfaction and stress. Methodology: The group examined was created by 133 nurses from 37 agencies of home healthcare in Moravian Silasian district. The research had a form of a questionnaire inquiry and it was done between the dates of 1. 3. 2016 and 31. 7. 2016. Standardized questionnaire Home Healthcare Nurses Job Satisfaction Scale (HHNJS) and Perceived Stress Scale - 10 item (PSS 10) were used and demographic data were added. Results: The nurses evaluated job satisfaction generally as above-average. Within the individual aspects of working life, the nurses were most satisfied with the relationships with patients and colleagues at work. On the other hand, they were most dissatisfied with the financial rewards, with work load at workplace and with the relationships to doctors. If we look at sociodemographic figures, there is a significant difference only at the factor of the length of work experience at the current workplace, where the nurses with 6-10 year long work experience showed the lowest satisfaction of all the groups. In the examined group a middle level of stress has been found. It has been found that the sociodemographic factors do not influence stress with nurses in home healthcare. In the field of relationship between the work satisfaction and stress, there has been found a weak significant negative corelation. Conclusion: The results of evaluation of job satisfaction of nurses focused on the general satisfaction and also its individual parts offer a feedback which is important for leaders of individual institutions, for management of quality and even for the emploees themselves. It is neccessary to support and strenghten those areas that nurses evaluate as good, however, in areas seen as negative an optimal solution should be found.
