Abstract:

The main objective of the thesis is to analyze outsourcing of accounting in international companies which outsource their services to low-cost sourcing destinations; and answer the research questions with the gathered data and provided recommendations. The theoretical part provides a comprehensive overview of different outsourcing concepts, history and main outsourcing destinations. Major focus is on outsourcing of accounting, its advantages and drawbacks identifying possible trends. The assumptions derived from the theory serve as a base for the following empirical part, where the theoretical research is completed with a qualitative study. The qualitative study was conducted interviewing accounting and business professionals who work for international companies with outsourced accounting. The purpose of the interview was to analyze the quality and cost effectiveness of provided services from professionals’ perspective. The results showed that outsourcing to low-cost labor countries is cost effective only in the long run while short-term is affected by high initial costs. An important factor in the provision of such services is the trade-off between cost and quality. The study found that the quality of provided services is very low and below professional standards.
