The slovac minority in Hungary in the past and today

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je popsat vznik a následný vývoj slovenské menšiny na území dnešního Maďarska, zhodnotit důsledky maďarské menšinové politiky a charakterizovat současnou situaci a intenzitu pociťování slovenské identity v Maďarsku. První kapitola porovnává různé definice menšiny, charakterizuje důležité pojmy, které se v práci objevují, a popisuje stručný vývoj mezinárodní ochrany práv menšin. Druhá kapitola se zabývá historickým vývojem Maďarska od vzniku Uherského státu po Maďarskou republiku v roce 1989, čímž vytváří kontext důležitý pro pochopení postavení slovenské menšiny v Maďarsku. Následující kapitola uvádí vývoj počtu Slováků od 19. století do současnosti a lokalizuje jejich polohu ve státu. Poslední kapitola je svým zhodnocením postavení slovenské menšiny v Maďarsku po roce 1989 až do současnosti, charakteristiky a momentálních podmínek pro rozvoj slovenské identity nejpodstatnější. Slovenské etnikum žilo po dlouhou dobu dějin na území ovládaném Maďary a od přelomu 17. a 18. století systematicky osídlovalo Velkou uherskou nížinu. Nejen maďarská domácí menšinová politika svými asimilačními tlaky způsobila snížení početnosti Slováků. Tento proces se nepodařilo zastavit ani enormním zlepšením podmínek a stal se v současné sobě samovolným.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to describe the formation and subsequent development of the slovak minority on territory of present Hungary, evaluate consequences Hungarian minority policy and characterize the current situation and intensity of feeling the slovak identity in Hungary. In the first chapter there is comparison different definitions of minorities, characterization of the important terms that are appearing in the work, and description brief development of the international protection of minority rights. The second chapter deals with the historical development of Hungary from the Hungarian State to the Republic of Hungary in 1989, creating so an important context for understanding the position of the Slovak minority in Hungary. The following chapter presents the development of number of Slovaks from 19 century to the present and locates their position in the state. The last chapter is the most important because of appreciation of the position of the Slovak minority in Hungary after 1989 to the present, characteristic and current conditions for the development of slovak identity. Slovak ethnic group lived for a long time history on the territory ruled by the Hungarians and from the turn of 17th and 18th century settled in the Great Hungarian Plain. Not only Hungarian internal minority policy with his assimilation pressures caused decrease of the number of Slovaks. This proces was not halted even with enormous improvement of conditions and became currently spontaneous.
