Combination of plasmatic and chemical processes for clay material surface modification

Abstract:

V této diplomové práci se věnuji fylosilikátovým materiálům, zejména montmorilonitu, řadícího se do skupiny smektitů, a jejich možným plazmovým a chemickým úpravám. Zaměřila jsem se na ně z důvodu jejich dobré dostupnosti a unikátním vlastnostem, např. negativní náboj vrstvy, kterého je možné využít k navázání kationtových barviv jako je rhodamin B a methylenová modř, tedy k chemické úpravě, po které získají novou vlastnost - fluorescence. Chemickou úpravu jsem kombinovala s využitím plazmových úprav, při kterých dojde k dehydrataci a dehydroxylaci fylosilikátové struktury a k tvorbě nových aktivních míst, což může nahradit doposud používané náročnější tepelné úpravy, které mají stejný dopad. Takto připravené materiály představují vhodnou matrici pro tvorbu nanostruktur a nanokompozitů se širokou škálou aplikací jako jsou fotokatalyzátory, luminofory, nosiče léčiv a jiné. Byly provedeny plazmatické úpravy montmorilonitu ve vznosovém reaktoru s následným nanesením barviv z roztoků o různých koncentracích. Byly provedeny analýzy modifikovaného montmorilonitu, jmenovitě FTIR, XRD a spektrofluorometrie, které potvrdily úspěšné navázání barviv na montmorilonit.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on phyllosilicate materials, particularly montmorillonite belonging to the smectite group, and their potential plasma and chemical treatment. I focused on them due to their good availability and unique properties e.g. like a negative charge layer which enable them to bind cationic dyes as are rhodamine B and methylene blue, thus there is a chemical treatment after which the montmorillonite acquire a new property - fluorescence. The chemical treatment has been combined with the plasma treatment, enabling a dehydration and a dehydroxylation of phyllosilicate structure and forming new active sites. The plasma treatment can replace previously used more demanding heat treatment having the same effect. Thus prepared materials represent very convenient matrix for design of nanostructures and nanocomposites for a wide range of applications like photocatalysts, luminofores, drug carriers etc. Plasma treatments of montmorillonite were done in fluidized bed reactor with subsequent application of dyes from solutions of varying concentrations. Analyses of modified montmorillonite were performed, namely FTIR, XRD and spectrofluorimetry confirming successful binding of dyes on montmorillonite.
