Applying canistherapy and feline therapy in retirement homes

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá využitím canisterapie a felinoterapie v domovech pro seniory. Hlavním cílem je zjistit, zda canisterapie nějakým způsobem ovlivňuje subjektivně vnímanou kvalitu života seniorů a jak terapii vnímají sami senioři. Teoretická část nejprve vymezuje pojem stáří a stárnutí, dále se věnuje tělesným, psychickým a sociálním změnám v důsledku stáří. Dalším tématem jsou potřeby seniorů a péče o staré občany se zaměřením na domovy pro seniory. Druhá polovina teoretické části je věnována zooterapii obecně, následně jsou popsány její metody a formy. Zbývající kapitoly jsou zaměřeny na canisterapii a felinoterapii, na možnosti využití těchto terapií u seniorů a na jejich následné porovnání. Empirická část analyzuje výsledky kvalitativního výzkumu, během kterého bylo uskutečněno šest polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s klienty domova pro seniory, kteří dochází na canisterapii.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis concerns with the usage of canistherapy and feline therapy in retirement homes. The main target is to figure out whether canistherapy influences in any way the subjectively perceived quality of life and how the seniors feel about it. At first, I focus on the meaning of aging and elderhood in the theoretical part. I continue further with physical, psychical and social changes due to aging and then, the next topic is about the needs of seniors and caring about elders in the retirement homes. Second half of the theoretical part examines the zootherapy in general, followed by its methods and forms. Remaining chapters deal with canistherapy and feline therapy, possibilities of its usage by seniors and subsequent comparison. Empirical part analyses the results of qualitative research in which six half-structured interviews had taken place with a group of seniors from a retirement home who attend the canistherapy.
