The life of women in Francoist Spain through novel, historiographic texts and biographical memoirs obtained through oral historiography

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the life of women in Francoist Spain. The aim of the thesis is to compare the ways in which the life of women in Francoist Spain is portrayed in different literary genres, namely in historiographical texts, in the novel and also in biographical memoirs. The theoretical part focuses on the life of women during Francoism and the Second Spanish Republic that preceded it, portrayed through the lens of historiographical texts. In the practical part, we look at how women's lives were portrayed in novels, which are often based on real historical figures or events, and also, we look at how their lives were described by the women themselves in their biographical memoirs. After analyzing these selected texts, we concluded that the chosen genre greatly influences how women's lives are portrayed. In the case of historiographical texts, more substantiated facts and statistics are present, while novels and personal testimonies are more emotional and subjective. Surprisingly, it is often novels that offer us the most detailed descriptions of events, as opposed to personal testimonies, which tend to be shorter and less detailed.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá životem žen ve frankistickém Španělsku. Cílem práce je srovnání způsobů, kterými je vyobrazen život žen ve frankistickém Španělsku v různých literárních žánrech, konkrétně v historiografických textech, v románu a dále také v biografických vzpomínkách. Teoretická část je zaměřena na život žen jak během frankismu, tak během jemu předcházející druhé španělské republiky, pohledem historiografických textů. V části praktické se věnujeme tomu, jak byl život žen vyobrazován v románech, které jsou mnohdy založeny na skutečných historických postavách, či událostech, a také tomu, jak byl popisován samotnými ženami v jejich biografických vzpomínkách. Po analýze vybraných textů jsme dospěli k tomu závěru, že zvolený žánr textu značně ovlivňuje to, jak je život žen vyobrazen. V případě textů historiografických se setkáme spíše s podloženými fakty a statistikami, romány a osobní svědectví jsou však více emotivní a subjektivní. Překvapivě se s nejdetailnějším popisem událostí mnohdy setkáme právě u románů, na rozdíl od osobních svědectví, která jsou spíše kratší a méně detailní.
