Diplomová práca sa zaoberá problematikou protipovodňovej ochrany. Teoretická časť je zameraná na definíciu povodní, faktorov, ktoré na povodeň pôsobia a na regulačné opatrenia. Prvým z dvoch hlavných cieľov práce je vyšetriť retrospektívny vývoj trasy toku Rybného potoka a vývoj krajinného pokryvu za pomoci historických máp.
