Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá vztahem mezi turistickým a ekonomickým růstem a analyzuje vztahy mezi nimi. V teoretické části se zabývám turismem a produkcí spojenou se základy gravitační rovnice a s tím souvisejícím empirickým zkoumáním cestovního ruchu a ekonomických základů. Používáme data přílivu turistického ruchu z Eurostatu a další ekonomické ukazatele z Moser and Rose (2014) k odhadnutí předpovědí s gravitační rovnicí. Analyzované údaje odhalují, že příliv turistiky je procyklický, což znamená, že v době ekonomického poklesu cestovní ruch klesá a v obdob í hospodářského růstu se rozšiřuje. Nejvýznamnějšími zeměmi v počtu turistických návštěv jsou Německo, Spojené království a Španělsko. Analyzované údaje ukazují, že vztah mezi přílivem cestovního ruchu a hospodářským růstem je složitý. Na jedné straně vyšší příliv turistů související s vyšší úrovní hospodářského růstu, protože turisté přitahují hospodářské bohatství a infrastrukturu. Také cestovní ruch je drahý, tudíž vyšší míra ekonomického růstu souvisí s větším cestovním ruchem. Na druhou stranu cestovní ruch vytváří ekonomický růst, protože vytváří pracovní místa v hotelovém, turistickém a pohostinském průmyslu. Tyto průmyslové odvětví jsou pro mnohé evropské země klíčovými zdroji vnějších příjmů.

Abstract:

In the thesis, I look at the relationship between tourism and economic growth and research various relationships between them. In the theoretical part, I look at how tourism and production are related through the foundations of gravity equation. Further, this theoretical framework leads me to investigate the relationships between tourism and economic fundamentals empirically. Use data on tourism inflows from Eurostat and various economic indicators from Moser and Rose (2014) to estimate the predictions of the gravity equations empirically. The data analyzed unveil that the tourism inflows are pro-cyclical, meaning that in the times of economic decline tourism declines and during the periods of economic growth it expands. The top ranking countries in the number of visits are Germany, the UK and Spain. The data analyzed reveal that the relationship between tourism inflows and economic growth are of complex nature. On the one hand, higher inflows of tourists are related to higher level of economic growth because tourists are attracted to economic wealth and infrastructure. Also, tourism is expensive, hence higher levels of economic growth are related to more tourism. On the other hand, tourism generates economic growth because it generates jobs in hotel, tourism and hospitality industries. These industries are key sources of external revenue for many European countries.
