Political representation of women in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá politickou reprezentací žen v České republice. Politická reprezentace žen patří k trvalým a základním tématům ženského hnutí a feministického myšlení. V českém kontextu politických a sociálních věd jsou ale důkladnější výzkumy týkající se této problematiky otázkou teprve posledního desetiletí. Míra zastoupení žen v politice je jedním z indikátorů genderových nerovností ve společnosti. Cílem této práce tak není pouze zmapovat zastoupení a roli žen v české politice, ale také upozornit na problematiku rovných příležitostí, která hraje důležitou roli v rozvinutých demokratických společnostech. Až do nedávné doby se v České republice odrážela určitá specifika, která se vyskytují v důsledku dědictví genderové kultury z dob komunismu. Toto dědictví pak sehrávalo velký vliv v následných obdobích procesů transformace a evropeizace českého politického systému. V období před vstupem a po vstupu do evropské unie můžeme vysledovat určité snahy o změnu genderového systému ve smyslu odstranění genderových nerovností, nicméně celkový rámec aktivit byl málo účinný. V současné době se politice rovných příležitostí dostává vyšší politické relevance v souvislosti s prosazováním vyššího zastoupení žen v politice. Větší důležitost tohoto tématu může znamenat, že se politická reprezentce žen do budoucna stane jedním z aktuálních politických témat na české politické scéně.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is concerning the political representation of women in the Czech Republic. Political representation is one of the permanent and basic issues of womens movement and feminist thinking. In the context of czech political and social sciences, deeper analyses of this problematic is only a matter of last decade. The level of representation of women in politics is one of the indicators of gender inbalances in society. The aim of this work is thus not only map the representation and the role of women in czech politics, but also point out problematics of equal opportunities, which plays an important role in developed democratic societies. Until nowadays in the Czech Republic we can reflect particular specificities, which are occuring as a heritage of gender culture from the time of Communism. This heritage is playing a big role in a following process of transformation and europeanisation of the czech political systém. In the period before and after accession to the European Union we can observe some tendencies to change gender system in a meaning of removal of gender imbalances, however the whole package of activities was not successful enough. Currently the issue of equal opportunities is gaining more political relevance hand in hand with enforcement of higher representation of women in politics. More importance of this topic could mean, that the political representation of women can become one of the actual political issues on czech political scene.
