Profile of the militant group Jabhat al-Nusra

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce předkládá analytický profil militantní skupiny Džabhat al-Nusry, působící v syrské občanské válce. Skupina se díky svým aktivitám dostala do mezinárodního povědomí i na teroristické seznamy některých států. Dosud však nebyla v českém akademickém prostředí rozsáhleji popsána. První část práce koncepčně vychází z typologie nestátních ozbrojených aktérů Phila Williamse s částečnou autorovou modifikací. V druhé části jsou napřed představeny okolnosti vzniku Džabhat al-Nusry v kontextu občanské války v Sýrii. Následně jsou analyzovány jednotlivé charakteristiky skupiny a to její cíle, ideologie, strategie, struktura, způsoby financování, taktika a vztah se státem. Tyto charakteristiky odrážejí indikátory dané typologie nestátních aktérů. Po vytvoření analytického profilu skupiny, respektive její případové studie, je provedena klasifikace skupiny v rámci představeného konceptuálního rámce.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis presents an analytic profile of militant group Jabhat al-Nusra operating in Syrian civil war. Due to its activities the group got into an international awareness as well as onto terroristic lists of some countries. Nevertheless, it has not been extensively described in any Czech academic milieu so far. First part of the thesis conceptually draws from the typology of non-state armed actors by Phil Williams with partial modification of the author. In the second part, circumstances of origin of Jabhat al-Nusra within the context of civil war in Syria are presented. Next, particular characteristics of the group i.e. its goals, ideologies, strategies, structure, means of financing, tactics and relation with the state are analyzed. These characteristics reflect given indicators of typology of non-state actors. After presenting the analytic profile of group, or more precisely her case study, classification of the group within the presented conceptual frame is made.
