Serpent in alchemy - study about theory of symbol

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá vliv symbolů Caducea a Urobora ve filozofickém a náboženském myšlení renesančních alchymistů. Nachází souvislosti v chápání obou symbolů a vysvětluje jejich vidění chodu světa. Problém je zkoumán z mnoha úhlů pohledu, vysvětluje biologické předpoklady hada pro tento význam symbolů, zaměřuje se na souvislosti, ve kterých jsou symboly používány, na jejich možné obměny v čase, či místě působení, také na jejich historický kontext. Toto téma je v české literatuře, dle mého názoru velmi nedostatečně rozebíráno. Tématem se autoři zabývají pouze okrajově a tím okolo symbolů vzniká mnoho mylných domněnek. Práce oba symboly ukazuje v jasném světle. Vyústěním je zjištění, že oba symboly jsou používány za téměř stejných okolností a mají velmi podobný, v mnohých případech i shodný význam, a ačkoliv je každý z nich používanější v jiné době, jde hlavně o obměnu podoby symbolu a cesty, jak ke stejnému významu dospět. Jde tedy především o vidění celého chodu světa v cyklech a neustále se opakujících rituálech. Práce napomáhá porozumět samotné filozofii té doby, jako teorie symbolu zasahuje do různých humanitních oborů a objasňuje alchymistické myšlenky všeobecně. Také z trochu jiné perspektivy přispívá k celkovému pochopení cyklického myšlení ve středověku, které alchymisté přejímají i do období renesance. Na rozdíl od pozdního novověku, kde bylo cyklické myšlení o chodu světa, nahrazeno lineárním chápáním. Klíč do myšlení alchymistů napomáhá také ve zkoumání, z čeho a za jakých okolností vznikla chemie.

Abstract:

This work examines influence of the symbols Caduceus and Ouroboros in philosophical and religious thinking of the alchemists in renesance. It is finding context in understanding both of the symbols and explains their seeing of the course of the world. The problem is examined from many angles of view, explanes biological assumptions of the snake for this meaning of the symbols, focuses on the context, in which are the symbols using, on their possible changing in time, or place of effect and on their historical context. This topic is in czech literature, I think, very poorly analysed. Authors follows up just marginally to this topic and therefore originate so much misconceptions about this symbols. In this work are both of symbols in clearly light. Outflow of this work is finding, that both of symbols are using under almost the same circumstances and that they have very similar and in some cases even identical meanings and although is every single symbol used in the other period, here It is mainly about the change of form the symbol and about the way how to to get in the same meaning.It is about seeing of the course of the world in cycles and constantly repeating rituals. This work helps understand to philosophy of that time, theory of symbol interferes to the different humanities and clarifies alchymistic thinking at all. Also from the other perspective contributes to overal understanding cyclic thinking in Middle Ages, which alchymists take over to the period of renesance. Instead of late New Ages, where was cyclic thinking about the course of the world, replaced linear thinking. The key to the thinking of alchymists helps too in exploration, from which and under what circustances was created chemistry.
