The Three Trees Test: Possibility of use in diagnostics of adult interpersonal relationships

Abstract:

Test tří stromů (T-T-T) je grafickou projektivní metodou rodinné a vztahové diagnostiky, jejíž diskriminační potenciál byl v minulých letech opakovaně potvrzen četnými výzkumy na probandech ve věku 6-26 let. V tomto výzkumu je test poprvé administrován dospělým osobám, které se již emancipovaly od své původní rodiny a založily rodinu vlastní. Zaměřujeme se na zjištění vlastností testu na vzorku běžné populace, o průměrném věku 38,5 roku. Respondenti žijí v úplné rodině (extenzní fáze), mimo současnou rodinu nejsou přítomny další závazky, absentuje zjevná vztahová patologie. Prvořadým cílem výzkumu je detekce vztahů mezi hodnotícími znaky v kresbě tří stromů a interpersonálními charakteristikami osobnosti, vyjádřenými prostřednictvím objektivního diagnostického nástroje – Learyho ICL. Teoretická část poskytuje informační rámec a východiska výzkumu. Ve výzkumné části jsou testovány vztahy mezi hodnotícími znaky v kresbě tří stromů, u nichž je předpokládán potenciál k zachycení dominance a afiliance, a ekvivalentními položkami v ICL. Nad rámec zpracování hypotéz je dále provedena korelační analýza procentuálních skórů jednotlivých oktantů a souhrnných indexů ICL ve vztahu k hodnotícím znakům T-T-T. Kazuistická část doplňuje teoretické závěry o praktické ukázky možností testu při práci s dospělými. T-T-T se na základě zjištěných informací jeví jako perspektivní projektivní kresebná metoda i pro práci s dospělými. Vzhledem k jejím možnostem a omezením lze předpokládat širší možnosti uplatnění zejména v poradenské a klinické praxi.

Abstract:

The Three tree test (T-T-T) is a graphical projective method of a family and relationship diagnostics, which potential has been repeatedly confirmed by numerous researches applied on individuals from 6 to 26 years old. In the research presented in this work the test is for the first time applied on the adults, who have already separated from their original families and have established their own (new) families. The work focus on the characteristics of the test as applies on the sample of the standard population. Average age of the people in the sample is 38,5 years. They live in whole families (extensive faze), there are no external obligations out of the present families and no obvious relationship pathology. The most important aim of the research is to detect relationship between the significant characteristics of the three tree drawings and interpersonal characteristics of the personalities, as they were expressed via objective diagnostic instrument – ICL by Leary. The theoretical part contains an informative framework and starting points of the research. In the research part of the work I test the significant characteristics of the three tree drawings, which are believed to carry the signs of dominance and affiliation, and equivalent items of the ICL test. Over more there is a correlation analysis of the particular octants percentage scores and overall ICL indexes in relation to the significant characteristics of the three tree drawings. Finally, the case part illustrates the theoretical conclusions on the practical examples of the test, as applied to the adults. On the basis of the results of presented work it appears that T-T-T is a perspective drawing method also for adults. Considering both its opportunities and limits I suppose the test could be used especially in the field of counselling and clinic practise.
