Alpine and subalpine vegetation of Mt Midzhur, Stara Planina, Bulgaria

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá klasifikací alpínské a subalpínské vegetace v Západní Staré Planině, zejména v oblasti hory Midžur. Zájmová oblast je unikátní svojí geografickou polohou u severovýchodní hranice Balkánského poloostrova a podložím kyselých sedimentárních hornin. Souvislý stupeň subalpínské vegetace se rozprostírá od ~1700 m n. m. po nejvyšší vrcholky. Alpínská vegetace se vyvíjí pouze ostrůvkovitě v oblastech se specifickými geomorfologickými a půdními podmínkami. Ve studovaném území jsem Braun-Blanquetovou metodou zapsal 78 fytocenologických snímků. Získaný datový soubor jsem klasifikoval pomocí modifikovaného algoritmu Twinspan. Snímky jsem zobrazil v ordinační analýze. Vegetaci jsem klasifikoval do 12 fytocenologických tříd a 21 svazů. Nově bylo zjištěno pro území Bulharska sedm svazů a jeden svaz suťové vysokobylinné vegetace byl popsán nově. Zaznamenal jsem šest asociací v Bulharsku původně neznámých a 19 asociací jsem nově popsal. Analyzoval jsem vliv půdního pH a nadmořské výšky na vegetaci za použití obecného lineárního modelu. Oba enviromentální faktory měli na rostlinná společenstva signifikantní vliv. Druhy jsem analyzoval na úrovni floroelementů. Z této analýzy vyplynulo, že zastoupení horských druhů ve společenstvech se s nadmořskou výškou zvyšuje, naopak, klesá podíl druhů s širším evropským areálem. Signifikantní byla rovněž závislost podílu boreálních druhů na pH, která byla negativní.

Abstract:

This work focuses on the classification of alpine and subalpine vegetation in the Western Stara Planina Mts. around Mt. Midzhur. This area is unique for its geographical position near the northeastern edge of the Balkan Peninsula and the occurrence of acidic sedimentary rocks. The continuous subalpine vegetation belt starts at ~1700 m a. s. l. and continues to the highest altitudes. The alpine vegetation occurs only patchily due to topographical and soil conditions. In the study area, I recorded 78 vegetation plots using the Braun-Blanquet approach. The dataset was classified using modified Twinspan algorithm. A DCA ordination graph was created to visualize the dissimilarity of vegetation types. The vegetation was divided into 12 phytosociological classes and 21 alliances. Seven alliances not previously known from Bulgaria and one newly described alliance of subalpine tall-herb vegetation on screes were reported; six associations were newly reported for Bulgaria and 19 association were newly described. The role of altitude and soil pH on the vegetation was analyzed using the general linear model. Both factors have a significant influence over analyzed vegetation. The floristic composition was analyzed on the level of floristic elements. The portion of mountainous species has a significant positive relationship with altitude, and the portion of species with wider European distribution has a negative relationship with altitude. The portion of Boreal species decreases with increasing soil pH.
