Effect of the interpersonal relationships on the nursing care within departments of anaesthesia and intensive care

Abstract:

This thesis is aimed on the effect of the interpersonal relationship on the nursin care within the department of anaesthesiology and intensice care. The theoretical part of thesis deals with the general problems of interpersonal relationships in the workplace, along with the problems of these relationships in the healthcare setting. Particular attention is paid to this issue within ICU, which focuses on the aspects specific for the work in this units and the specific problems of interpersonal relationships in this environment. It also addresses those aspects which are modifying interpersonal relationships in the workplace environment of ICU in positive or negative way, while retaining the view on the issue from the position of nurse. In all aspects of the issue, debated are those problems connected wtih discrimination , mobbing and bossing, with focus on those issues and burnout issue of ICU nurses. The work also focuses on the interpersonal conflicts in the work environment from the nurses poing of view, following their impact on the nursing care. Thesis defines the specifics of ICU’s and the potential impact of the environment on interpersonal relationships within it. In the empirical part of thesis are mapped espondent's views on the issues of interpersonal relationships. Those views are outcome of the responses of 100 ICU nurses whom are working in local district hospitals and major teaching hospitals. Nurses were asked their opinions using anoymous questionnaire followed by its statistical evaluation. Difference between the answers by nurses working in both types of hospitals are monitored and evaluated. In discussion part the thesis aims to explain the possible reasons of overriding responses in the individual items of the questionnaire and comparing its results with the researches that were held in the past dealing with the same subject. This part of the thesis is also trying to bring suggestions for the practice that could help solve the outlined issues. The goal of the thesis was to determine the prevalence of possible negative effects that modyfies the nature of interpersonal relationship within ICU, to highlight their potential impact on subsequent quality of nursing care and to bring some practical benefits to the observed problems, which causes one of the problems of the nursing profession.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca je zameraná na vplyv interpersonálnych vzťahov na ošetrovateľskú starostlivosť v rámci oddelenia anestéziológie a intenzívnej medicíny. Teoretická časť sa zaoberá všeobecnou problematikou interpersonálnych vzťahov na pracovisku spolu s problematikou týchto vzťahov v zdravotníckom prostredí. Osobitná pozornosť je venovaná tejto problematike v prostredí OAIM, kde sa zameriava na aspekty charakteristické pre prácu v danom odbore a špecifickou problematikou interpersonálnych vzťahov v tomto prostredí. Venuje sa tiež aspektom pozitívne a negatívne modifikujúcim interpersonálne vzťahy v prostredí pracovísk OAIM, pričom si zachováva pohľad na problematiku z pozície ošetrovateľstva. Vo všetkých aspektoch sledovanej problematiky je rozoberaná problematika diskriminácie, mobbingu a bossingu, pričom v zameraní na problematiku OAIM sa nevynecháva ani problém syndrómu vyhorenia. Práca sa zameriava tiež na interpersonálne konflikty v pracovnom prostredí a spolu s ošetrovateľským nazeraním na túto problematiku sleduje ich vplyv na ošetrovateľskú starostlivosť. Popisuje špecifiká pracovísk anestéziológie a intenzívnej medicíny a možný vplyv tohto prostredia na interpersonálne vzťahy. V empirickej časti sa mapujú názory respondentov na problematiku interpersonálnych vzťahov, ktoré sú spracovaním odpovedí 100 sestier pracujúcich na pracoviskách OAIM v okresných aj fakultných nemocniciach a to prostredníctvom anonymného dotazníkového výskumu s následných štatistickým vyhodnotením. Sledovaný je rozdiel odpovedí medzi sestrami pracujúcimi v uvedených typoch nemocníc. V diskusii sa práca zameriava na vysvetlenie možných dôvodov prevažujúcich odpovedí v jednotlivých položkách dotazníkového výskumu a komparáciu výsledkov s výsledkami výskumov, ktoré sa touto, alebo podobnou témou zaoberali v minulosti a snaží sa tiež priniesť určité návrhy pre prax, ktoré by mohli pomôcť v riešení tejto problematiky. Cieľom práce bolo zistiť výskyt možných negatívnych javov modifikujúcich charakter interpersonálnych vzťahov v prostredí OAIM, poukázať na ich možný vplyv na následnú kvalitu ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti a priniesť tak praktický prínos pre sledovanú problematiku, ktorá tvorí jeden z problémov ošetrovateľskej profesie.
