The Aesthetic evaluation of artistic representations of the Holocaust

Anotácia:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o možnostech umělecké reprezentace holocaustu a o hodnotách, které tato umělecká díla nesou. Jsou nastíněny dva přístupy k reprezentaci holocaustu, realistický a alegorický, přičemž tyto formy reprezentace jsou zasazeny do širšího kontextu estetického uvažování o umělecké reprezentaci. V další části práce je pojednáno o otázce hodnot umělecké reprezentace holocaustu. Při tázání, z jakého důvodu jsou reprezentace holocaustu považovány za hodnotné, je navržen nejdříve formalistický přístup, poté estetický dualismus Tomáše Kulky. Po analýze vybraných děl je navržena teorie estetického kognitivismu, která má potenciál hodnotu uměleckých reprezentací holocaustu vysvětlit.

Abstract:

This Bachelor's thesis deals with the possibilities of artistic representation of the Holocaust and with the values which those works of art can bear. There are two approaches to the representation of the Holocaust, realistic and allegoric one, and both these approaches are placed into the wider context of aesthetic thinking about artistic representation. In the next part of thesis the question of artistic representation of the Holocaust is being discussed. While searching for the reason why the representations of the Holocaust are considered valuable, the formalistic approach is being offered first and then Tomáš Kulka's aesthetic dualism. After the analysis of the chosen works the theory of aesthetic cognitivism is proposed, that has the potential to explain the value of artistic representations of the Holocaust.
