Assessing the Risk of Tourism Decline as a Result of a Terrorist Attack

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá posouzením rizika dopadu teroristického útoku na cestovní ruch. Teoretická část práce se zaměřuje na postavení turismu v ekonomice, na terorismus a na vymezení možných negativních vlivů tohoto jevu na turismus. V rámci praktické části práce je posuzován vliv vybraných teroristických útoků s vysokým počtem obětí na míru návštěvnosti vybraných zemí s dobrým pokrytím dat z turismu. Autorovi se v závěru podařilo prokázat vliv teroristických útoků s vysokým počtem úmrtí na cestovní ruch a vliv dlouhodobějšího zhoršení vnitřní bezpečnosti na stabilitu turismu v zemi.

Abstract:

This paper deals with the risk assessment of the impact of a terrorist attack on tourism. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the position of tourism in the economy, on terrorism and on the definition of possible negative effects of this phenomenon on tourism. The practical part of the thesis assesses the impact of selected terrorist attacks with a high number of victims on visitor arrival rates in selected countries with good tourism data coverage. The author concludes by demonstrating the impact of high-casualty terrorist attacks on tourism and the effect of longer-term deterioration in internal security on the stability of tourism in the country.
