Alternative Approaches to the Preparation and Interpretation of Tests in Psychology

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá dvěma alternativními psychometrickými teoriemi. Jedná se o teorii vědomostního prostoru a teorii odpovědi na položku, které nejsou v české psychologii příliš rozšířeny. Teoretické část práce tyto teorie definuje a pokouší se o jejich vzájemné kritické srovnání. V empirické části práce se zaměřuji na KST a provádím v tomto kontextu analýzy dvou testů – inteligenčního testu BOMAT a osobnostního inventáře NEO FFI vycházejícího z principů teorie Velké pětky. Empirická část ukazuje informační přínos KST pro psychometriku, zdůrazňuje zjištění vyplývající z testů, která se však v rámci klasické testové teorie nedají jednoduše odhalit. V teorii KST je důležité, jakým způsobem byl vědomostní prostor vytvořen. V této práci srovnávám výsledky dvou přístupů – vědomostní prostory vytvořené analýzou z dat respondentů a vědomostní prostory vzniklé expertním posouzením. Ukazuje se možnost použití expertních vědomostních prostorů i v oblasti testování osobnosti, ovšem s rizikem obousměrnosti prerekvizitních vztahů.

Abstract:

This doctoral thesis focuses on two alternative psychometrical theories: Knowledge Space Theory (KST) and Item Response Theory (IRT), which are not very common in the Czech psychology. The theoretical part of this work defines these theories and tries to offer their critical comparison. The empirical part treats the KST and in this context provides analysis of two tests: test of intelligence BOMAT and personality inventory NEO FFI based on the theoretical principles of the Big Five. The empirical part shows the KST’s contribution of information for the psychometrics and stresses the results of the tests which are not easily detectable with classical testing theory. The way the knowledge space was created is important in KST theory. In this work I compare the results of the two approaches: knowledge spaces created by the data of the respondents and the knowledge spaces created by expert’s judgement. It becomes clear that it is possible to use the expert knowledge spaces even in personality testing but there is a risk of bi-directional prerequisite relations.
