Social and Political Purpose of State Sports Teams

Abstract:

Rigorózní práce je založena na snaze objasnit otázku smyslu, významu a funkce reprezentování státu v mezinárodních sportovních soutěžích. Stěžejními pojmy jsou tedy národ, stát, smysl a sportovní zápolení. Samotná práce nabízí vymezení těchto pojmů, přičemž klade důraz na definice klasiků z oblasti státovědy a teorie národu. Zabývá se také vznikem národních reprezentací a rozpracováním časové osy, na níž se celou dobu práce pohybuje a na které je zdůrazněno porovnání smyslu reprezentací v různých historických etapách. Otázky smyslu jsou zde demonstrovány na samotných osobách sportovců a jejich vztahu k národu a naopak vztahu národu ke sportovcům samotným. V práci je také vedena polemika o ambivalenci termínu reprezentace, kterou můžeme nazvat jak státní, tak i národní. Dalšími dílčími podtématy jsou otázky sportu a národní i mezinárodní politiky, otázkách multikulturalismu ve sportovních reprezentacích a také záležitostmi klubismu, finančních aspektů reprezentování a porovnání sportu s axiologickým pojetím kultury.

Abstract:

The rigorous thesis is based on explaining a question of purpose, meaning and function of national sport teams. Contemporary world suggest many issues related to nation, nationality, nationalism, national pride and national identity and it does not depend on if we talk about historical, present or future contest. These mentioned topics are associated with science such as sociology, politic science or philosophy. Main purpose of our work is to focus on both of those aspects: nation and national pride and sport and politics in sport. Our research attempted to apply classical definition of nation and state to world of sport throughout history and present national sports teams. We can divide results into five short parts of the result. First part is about historical content. Second is an explained difference between national and state sport team. Third describes national sports stars and heroes in comparison with other popular people in the country. Four is based on issues about multiculturalism and national teams. And last article is based on question of financial aspect, residential of athletes and compares benefits of the national sport with culture.
