Dendrochronological dating and structural historical evaluation of selected wooden structures of the Matašův mlýn in Popudiny

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá dendrochronologickým datováním a stavebně-historickým hodnocením vybraných dřevěných konstrukcí Maťašova mlýna v Popudinách. Hlavním cílem práce je určit stáří dřevěných prvků a poskytnout historický kontext jejich využití a významu v regionu. V práci jsou využity kombinované dendrochronologické a stavebně-historické metody, včetně penetrometrického průzkumu a endoskopického zkoumání, aby bylo možné získat přesná data a porozumět konstrukčním technikám a materiálům použitým v minulosti. Analyzované vzorky dřeva, převážně dub a smrk, odrážejí tradiční stavební materiály používané v regionu. Hlavním cílem bylo určit stáří dřevěných prvků a poskytnout historický kontext jejich využití. O nejstarší datované konstrukci z pomezí let 1759/1760 se nenachází žádná zmínka v literatuře. O mladších datovaných konstrukcích z období mezi lety 1825-1833, dále kolem roku 1897 a z rozmezí let 1903-1923 již záznamy v literatuře existují a s výsledky měření se vzájemné potvrzují. Výsledky práce přispívají k lepšímu pochopení historického vývoje vodních mlýnů ve střední Evropě a jejich role v lokální ekonomice.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with dendrochronological dating and structural-historical evaluation of selected wooden structures of the Mataš mill in Popudiny. The main aim of the thesis is to determine the age of the wooden elements and to provide a historical context of their use and importance in the region. The thesis uses a combination of dendrochronological and structural-historical methods, including penetrometric survey and endoscopic examination, in order to obtain accurate data and to understand the construction techniques and materials used in the past. The timber samples analysed, predominantly oak and spruce, reflect traditional building materials used in the region. The main objective was to determine the age of the timber elements and provide a historical context for their use. There is no mention in the literature of the earliest dated structure dating to between 1759/1760. There are already records in the literature of younger dated structures from the period between 1825-1833, then around 1897 and from the range 1903-1923, and they corroborate with the measurement results. The results of this work contribute to a better understanding of the historical development of watermills in Central Europe and their role in the local economy.
