Characterization of Polymer Phase Structure Using Small-Angle X-Ray Diffraction

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl charakterizovat fázovou strukturu polypropylenu pomocí maloúhlové rentgenové difrakce, srovnat výsledky z této metody s ostatními používanými metodami k charakterizaci fázové struktury, konkrétně s diferenciální skenovací kalorimetrií a širokoúhlou rentgenovou difrakcí, a vypracovat metodiku k maloúhlové rentgenové difrakci. Charakterizovány byly dva materiály s třemi různými koncentracemi nukleačního činidla; polypropylen Mosten GB 005 s 0 %, 0,2 % a 0,5 % alfa nukleačního činidla Millad 3988 a polypropylen Mosten GB 003 s 0 %, 0,01 % a 0,03 % beta nukleačního činidla NJ Star NU 100. Pomocí zvolených metod byla u vzorků stanovena teplota tání a krystalizace, krystalinita, podíl alfa a beta fáze, dlouhá perioda, tloušťka lamel a tloušťka amorfní vrstvy. Bylo zjištěno, že výsledky zvolených metod spolu korespondují.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis aims to characterization of polypropylene structure by small-angle X-ray diffraction, to comparison of the results from this method with other methods for characterization of the phase structure, namely differential scanning calorimetry and wide-angle X-ray diffraction, and to development of a methodology for small-angle X-ray diffraction. Two materials with three different concentrations of the nucleating agent were characterized; polypropylene Mosten GB 005 with 0 %, 0.2 %, and 0.5 % concentration of the Millad 3988 (alpha-nucleating agent) and Mosten GB 003 polypropylene with 0 %, 0.01 % and 0.03 % concentration of the NJ Star NU 100 (beta-nucleating agent). Using the chosen methods, the melting temperature, crystallization temperature, alpha and beta phase content, long period, lamellar thickness and thickness of the amorphous layer were determined in the samples. It was found that the results from the methods used are consistent.
