Applications of x-ray diffraction imaging

Abstract:

A method called rocking curve imaging (RCI) has recently been developed to visualize lattice imperfections in single crystals. The method is based on a combination of X-ray rocking curve analysis and X-ray diffraction topography. In this bachelor thesis, we apply RCI to different types of single crystal samples in order to quantify local lattice misorientations and to map information about surface curvature, lattice deformation and dislocations in the sample. Knowing the intensity distribution, position, and width of the X-ray diffraction peak immediately provides this information about the crystal lattice of the sample.

Abstract:

Na vizualizáciu mriežkových nedokonalostí monokryštálov bola nedávno vyvinutá metóda nazývaná rocking curve imaging (RCI). Metóda je založená na kombinácii analýzy röntgenovej ohybovej krivky a röntgenovej difrakčnej topografie. V tejto bakalárskej práci aplikujeme RCI na rôzne typy monokryštalických vzoriek s cieľom kvantifikovať lokálne chybné orientácie mriežky a mapovať informácie o krivosti povrchu, mriežkovej deformácii a dislokáciách vo vzorke. Poznanie rozloženia intenzity, polohy a šírky píku röntgenovej difrakcie ihneď poskytuje tieto informácie o kryštálovej mriežke vzorky.
