Anotace: Bakalářská práce “Vývoj vztahů mezi Spojeným královstvím a Evropskou unií ve světle Brexitu“ si klade za cíl nahlédnout na historický vývoj vztahů mezi těmito entitami a vysledovat aspekty, které mohly ovlivnit rozhodnutí britské veřejnosti v referendu v roce 2016, kdy voliči rozhodli o vystoupení země z Evropské unie. Práce podrobně popisuje vývoj vztahů od konce 2. světové války, přes 50. léta, kdy se začaly formovat hlavní evropské instituce, 70. léta, kdy se Spojené království stává členem evropského projektu, až po dobu rozhodujícího referenda v roce 2016. Analýza se snaží poukázat na názorovou roztříštěnost politických elit a její dopad na veřejné mínění. V poslední části práce jsou uvedeny některé z možných faktorů, které mohly ovlivnit výsledky referenda. Práce dochází k závěru, že rozhodnutí voličů opustit Evropskou unii nebylo vzhledem k historickému vývoji a situaci na politické scéně v konečném důsledku až tak překvapivé a mohlo být očekáváno.

Abstract: The bachelor thesis “The Development of Relations Between the United Kingdom and the European Union in the Light of Brexit” aims to look at the historical development of relations between these two entities and trace aspects which could have influenced the decision of British people made in 2016, when voters decided to leave the European Union. The work describes the development of these relations since the end of World War II, through the 1950s when the main European institutions were formed, the 1970s when the United Kingdom finally joined the European project, until 2016 when the decisive referendum took place. The analysis aims to point out the disunity in opinions of political elites and its impact on public opinion. In the last part of the thesis, some possible aspects which could have had an impact on the referendum result are listed. The proposed conclusion is that the decision of voters to leave the European Union was not so surprising and could have been expected when taking into consideration the historical development and political situation.
