Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce shrnuje známé údaje o potravní biologii mravence Liometopum microcephalum.Dále shrnuje potravní biologii mravenců (Formicidae) obecně. Zaměřuje se zejména na rozhodování mravenců o místě a čase sběru potravy, používání individuálních a kolektivních strategií, komunikaci o potravních zdrojích a kompetici o ně. Druh L. microcephalum byl v minulosti považován za predátora živícího se výlučně členovci. Práce pojednává o výzkumu, jehož hlavním cílem bylo dokázat, že součástí potravní strategie zkoumaného druhu je i trofobiosa. K tomuto byla použita metoda stanovení obsahu celkových a redukujících cukrů v gasterech dělnic vystupujících a sestupujících z hnízdních a potravních stromů. Stanovení probíhalo pomocí chemických (fotometrických) metod. Dále zde byl zpracován soupis potravních částeček, které dělnice nosily v kusadlech do hnízda, a jejich reakce na nabízené návnady. Z výsledků vyplynulo, že tento druh opravdu navštěvuje mšice, od kterých sbírá medovici. Byl stanoven vrchol období aktivity zkoumaného druhu (přelom června a července) a potvrzen fakt, že v průběhu světlého dne je druh nejméně aktivní v poledních hodinách.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis, called Nutritional biology in the ant Liometopum microcephalum Panzer, 1798, sums up known information about nutritional biology of this species and other species of ants (Formicidae). It focuses on ants’ decision making concerning time and location of collected food, using individual and group foraging strategies, food competition and communication concerning food sources. L. microcephalum is mostly described as a preeminently predatory ant, which lives almost exclusively on animal food. In the research part, a field study on nest and feeding trees of this species was done. The main objective of the present study was to confirm trophobiosis in the ant. Ascending and descending workers were collected from nest and foraging trees and the contents of total and reducing sugars in their gasters were measured by chemical (photometric) methods. In the next part of study, the list of food items carried by workers returning to nests was created. In the last part the reactions of worker ants to offered tempts were observed. Reducing and total sugar contents were much higher in workers descending foraging trees than those ascending, indicating that workers really visit foraging trees to collect honeydew. Trophobiosis seems to be an important part of the feeding biology of L. microcephalum. The culmination of activity was assessed (June / July) and the fact, that the species activity is the lowest around noon was confirmed.
