The role of regional powers in conflict resolution and maintaining peace and security - case study of Saudi Arabia

Abstract:

V této diplomové práci zjišťujeme, jaké role zastává Saúdská Arábie při udržení míru a bezpečnosti v regionu Blízkého východu. V teoretické části této práce jsme zkoumali koncept regionálních mocností a nadefinovali jsme si pět definičních znaků, které musí regionální mocnosti splňovat. Dále jsme si vytvořili vlastní koncept rolí, které spojujeme s regionálními mocnostmi jako udržovateli míru a bezpečnosti. Těmi rolemi je role mediátora, role donora finanční pomoci a role garanta bezpečnosti. V empirické části jsme nejprve potvrdili, že Saúdská Arábie je regionální mocnost na základě našich definičních znaků. Dále jsme se již zabývali tím, jak Saúdská Arábie definované role vykonává.

Abstract:

In this thesis we find out what role Saudi Arabia plays in maintaining peace and security in the Middle East region. In the theoretical part of this work, we examined the concept of regional powers and defined five criteria that regional powers must meet. Furthermore, we have created our own concept of roles, which we associate with regional powers as maintainers of peace and security. These roles are the role of mediator, the role of donor of financial aid and the role of guarantor of security. In the empirical part, we first confirmed that Saudi Arabia is a regional power based on our definitions. Next, we discussed Saudi Arabia's role as a mediator, as a donor of financial aid and as a guarantor of security.
