Evaluation of the capercaillie breeding success and factors influencing their reintroduction in the Bohemian Forest

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zhodnocením reintrodukčního programu tetřeva hlušce (Tetrao urogallus) na území Českého lesa. Reintrodukční program spočívá v odchovu kuřat hlušců, která jsou později z aklimatizační voliéry vypouštěna na podporu stávající populace. V této práci je zhodnoceno telemetrické sledování, kterého zde bylo v minulosti využito, a dále je zde hodnoceno přežívání a obsazování biotopů v posledních letech. Z dat, která jsem měl k dispozici, vyplývá, že telemetrický výzkum nebyl příliš úspěšný, neboť vysoké procento tetřevů s telemetrickým obojkem bylo odloveno predátorem. Z pozorování je vidět nárůst populace v jarním sčítání, poslední 3 roky však ukazují nižší čísla než roky minulé. Zde však mohou být na vině okolní faktory. Celkově bych však projekt hodnotil jako úspěšný, protože se daří přežívání jedinců do dalších let, a především je zde vidět jejich přirozená reprodukce.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with an evaluation of the reintroduction program of capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) in the Bohemian Forest. Reintroduction program consists of breading of chickens of capercaillie, which are later released from the acclimatization aviary to support the current population. This work evaluates the telemetric monitoring, which was used here in the past, and also evaluates the survival and occupation of habitats in recent years. The available data suggest that telemetric research has not been very successful, as a high percentage of capercaillie with telemetric collar was killed by a predator. Observations show an increase in the population in the spring census, but the last 3 years show lower figures than the previous years. However, this may be the cause of environmental factors. But overall, I would evaluate this project as successful, because there is the survival of individuals to the consequent years and especially, we can see their natural reproduction.
